Are skid steer attachments universal?
Mostly, yes. Nearly all full-size skid steer loaders use the universal quick-attach plate, sometimes called a universal skid steer mount, so an attachment built for one
brand will physically mount to another. Mini skid steers use a different, smaller standard of their own. The mount is rarely what stops an attachment from working —
hydraulic flow and lift capacity usually are.
Are all skid steer attachments interchangeable between machines?
Physically interchangeable isn't the same as functionally interchangeable. A hydraulic attachment can mount to any universal plate and still be wrong for the machine
if the flow rating doesn't match, or if the attachment is too heavy for the loader's rated operating capacity. Check three things before moving an attachment between
machines: the mount standard, the auxiliary flow in GPM, and the weight.
Which skid steer attachments require high flow?
Attachments with a large hydraulic motor doing continuous work generally need high flow: forestry mulchers, cold planers, large brush cutters, snow blowers, and
some trenchers. Buckets, forks, blades, grapples, and rakes need little or no hydraulic power. Many tools are offered in both standard and high-flow versions, so check your machine's rated GPM before choosing a configuration.
How do I change an attachment on a skid steer?
Lower the current attachment to the ground, release the quick-attach levers, and back the machine away. Then drive the mount plate into the new attachment, tilt
back to seat it, and lock both levers — confirming visually that the pins are fully engaged. For hydraulic attachments, relieve pressure before connecting couplers, and route hoses so they aren't pinched through the full range of motion.
Are mini skid steer attachments universal?
Mini skid steers use their own common mount standard, so most mini attachments will fit most mini machines regardless of brand. They are not interchangeable with
full-size skid steer attachments in either direction — the plates are different sizes and the weight ratings aren't comparable. If you run both machine sizes, you'll need
attachments for each.
