Skid Steer Wood Chipper

Wood Chipper Attachment

Reduce your labor with a skid steer wood chipper attachment.
<br>
<br>
Bringing your wood chipper attachment directly into the field rather than hauling your wood off saves you time and allows you to increase soil quality by depositing the chips back onto the earth.

How Does A Wood Chipper Attachment Work?

Your skid steer's auxiliary hydraulic circuit sends hydraulic fluid to a motor inside the wood chipper attachment. The motor turns a 75 to 100-pound flywheel at 1000 RPM, which holds several blades that are attached at angles designed to chip wood.
<br>
<br>
High-quality wood chipper attachments will also have stationary "ledger knives" and twig breakers installed to help break down material.
<br>
<br>
An outside helper places the wood into the hopper where it is gravity-fed to the flywheel for chipping.
<br>
<br>
Once the wood is broken down, the motion of the flywheel sends the chips out the discharge chute, which can be manually rotated 360 degrees so the chips land exactly where you want them.

What Type Of Skid Steer Do I Need To Chip Wood?

The only requirement to operate a wood chipper attachment is auxiliary hydraulics on your skid steer.
<br>
<br>
Wood chipper attachments may require 25 gallons per minute of hydraulic flow from your skid steer; easily obtainable by all modern skid steers.
<br>
<br>
You should also be comfortable lifting approximately 800 pounds with your skid steer on the terrain you intend to operate on.

Wood And Chip Sizes

Performance varies by the type of wood and moisture content, but in general, you can chip up to 4” diameter pieces in a skid steer wood chipper. Larger diameter pieces can be broken down with an axe or chainsaw and shoveled into the intake hopper.
<br>
<br>
You can expect to produce wood chips as small as 1/4” in length and width, to about 2” in length and width, with thickness varying from 1/8” to 1/4”.
