What’s the Difference between a 4 way and 6 way mini skid steer dozer blade attachment?
A 4 way dozer blade can use the mini skid steers hydraulic system to curl the dozer blade upwards and downwards as well angle the blade horizontally.
A 6 way mini dozer blade can accomplish these same movements, but can also tilt the blade from side to side.
A 6 way dozer blade will typically require that you have an external electrical harness. The tilt is still hydraulically operated, however, it will normally be electrically actuated.
Do I Need Trip Springs?
Trip springs come as an option when you are ordering your mini skid steer dozer blade attachment. Most customers purchase this if they plan on clearing snow.
When you are pushing heavy material such as dirt, you want your mini skid steers dozer blade to remain rigid and not trip forward if resistance is placed on the blade. When moving dirt and earth, it’s easy to be fairly confident that you are not going to run into unexpected solid objects.
Snow is a different story though. Snow is light, so the only scenario where the blade will trip forward while being pushed is if you have hit a solid object such as a curb. Consider as well that it’s much more likely to hit unintended objects when clearing snow.
If you have purchased the optional trip spring kit for your mini skid steers dozer blade, it will allow the blade to trip forward. The springs will apply pressure to the top of the moldboard to try to return the blade to a normal position.
The blades ability to trip forward will hopefully prevent damaged to the mini dozer blade and host machine. Trip springs do not replace good judgment and safe travel speeds however.
