Skid Steer Bale Spears
Keeping your cattle fat and happy is a top priority on the ranch. That job starts with ensuring you can safely and reliably move bales to the <a href="https://skidsteersdirect.com/collections/feed-pusher-skid-steer" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">feeders</a>.
<br>
<br>
Bale spears are the go to tool for the job. Being strong, simple, and without moving parts, a quality bale spear should last you the life of your skid steer or tractor.

If you are interested in acquiring a bale spear for your ranch or farm, we can help.
What is a Skid Steer Bale Spear?
A bale spear is an attachment that hosts three or more long spears that are used to pierce and carry large round or <a href="https://skidsteersdirect.com/collections/skid-steer-bale-handlers-accumulator" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">square bales</a>.
<br>
<br>
The spears are attached to a frame with a universal skid steer quick attach. This quick attach can be used with nearly all modern skid steers and tractors.
What Type of Skid Steer Bale Spear Do I Need for Round Bales?
When using a bale spear attachment to move bales to feeders or stack them, the bale spears need to be set up correctly to ensure stability and safety.
<br>
<br>
If you are moving large round bales you will need at least three spears on the carriage to keep the bale stable. You should have one Conus 2 spear on the top and two spears on the bottom.
<br>
<br>
The top spear should usually be between 44” to 49” long depending on the size of the bales you are moving. If you are dumping bales into feeders, the bottom spears should be at least 40” long. If you are not dumping bales into a feeder, shorter bottom spears are acceptable.
What Type of Skid Steer Bale Spear do I Need for Square Bales?
A bale spear set up for square bales will have all the spears on the bottom, and do not require top spears. Four bottom spears is the normal set up to be able to lift two square bales at a time.
<br>
<br>
Most commonly 32” long spears are preferred for square bales, however, this depends on the size of bales you are moving.
<br>
<br>
For any bale spear set up, having too long of spears on your bale spear increases the risk of accidental damage to structures behind the bales.
