Will a skid steer auger go through rock?

With the right setup, yes. A rock bit with carbide teeth paired with a high-torque drive will work through shale, frozen ground, and rocky fill. Solid bedrock is a different
job and usually calls for a hydraulic breaker instead. If you hit rock intermittently, running a rock bit full time is often cheaper than repeatedly replacing worn earth-bit
